Configure VLAN Settings

Enable, disable, add, and modify VLAN (virtual local area network) assignments to different clients and user groups.


Navigate using the tab icons. Hover over an icon to see the name of the tab.

Configure > Network Policies > policy_name > Wireless Networks > SSID_name > User Access Settings


Configure > Network Policies > policy_name > Router Settings > Network Allocation > Edit VLAN


Configure > Common Objects > Basic > VLAN Group

Add a VLAN or VLAN Group

Create or select a user profile as described in "User Profile Settings".

Scroll down to the User Access Settings section of the window, and select Apply a different User Profile to various clients and user groups.

Select above the User Profile table. In the Create User Profile dialog box, enter the following:

User Profile Name: Enter a user profile name. It can contain up to 32 characters without spaces.

Connect to VLAN or VLAN Group: Select to associate an existing VLAN or VLAN group (VLAN 1 is the default). To add a new VLAN or VLAN group, select New from the drop-down menu or . Make the following entries and selections:

Name: Enter the name of the VLAN or VLAN group. It can contain up to 32 characters without spaces. This field is required.

Default VLAN: Enter the default VLAN for this VLAN profile. Typically, the default VLAN is 1. If you are assigning a VLAN group to this profile, select an existing group from the drop-down list, or select to create a new VLAN group.

Apply VLAN to devices for classification: Select this check box to create VLANs that you can apply to specific devices based on their location. Then select and enter the following:

VLAN ID: Enter the new VLAN ID and select Add to add the it to the VLAN table.

Under the Classification Rules column in the VLAN table, do the following:

Select to create a new classification rule, or select to copy or select an existing classification rule and then select Link. Enter the following information:

Name: Enter a descriptive name for the classification rule. For easier tracking, you may want to add the locations and device models using this VLAN classification rule (for example, VLAN-AP230-Sunnyvale).

Description: Enter an optional description.

Select to choose the device location. In the Location dialog box, assign your VLAN profile based on the location of managed devices, and then choose Select.

  1. When selecting a location, drill down to the level where the devices are located. For example, if the devices are located on the floor of a building, select that specific floor.

Select Save. To verify your settings, select under the Assignment Description column to expand the menus.

Select Save again to complete the process.

Modify a VLAN or VLAN Group

To make changes to an existing VLAN or VLAN group, use the drop-down menu to select the VLAN or VLAN group, and then select . In the dialog box, make any changes, and then select Save.
