The AP305C and AP305CX are high-performance 802.11ax dual-5G. dual band access points.

Both are designed for indoor high-density environments that require HD video streaming and large file transfers. The AP305CX has external antennas (sold separately), and an extended temperature range for industrial environments. These devices support IEEE 802.11ax Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) multi-user access.

Safety Guidelines

Install the AP

You can mount the AP305C and AP305CX on a flat surface or wall, or on the rails of a standard dropped ceiling grid. If you need to install your device in a non-standard ceiling, such as an Armstrong or Silhouette ceiling, you can order a separate bracket kit. The bracket kits available for these devices are listed below.

The following sections describe how to install your AP305C and AP305CX devices and connect them to the network.

Install the AP on a Ceiling Track

The AP305C and AP305CX have built-in hardware that lets you easily install them on the T-rail of a standard (15"/16") dropped ceiling grid. For standard ceiling mounts, place the built-in brackets onto the ceiling track and rotate the device until it clicks into place. The illustration shows an AP305C but the procedure is the same for both models.

You can also install these devices on non-standard ceiling tracks or directly to a wall using accessory brackets. See "Accessory Brackets for Non-standard Ceiling and Wall Installation"

Component Descriptions

Ethernet Port

The ETH0 port is autosensing 10/100/1000G BASE-T/TX Mbps, with IEEE 802.3af- or 802.3at-compliant PoE, and requires Cat5 or better cable.

Security Slot

Both devices have a security slot for locking the device.

Extreme Networks recommends a variety of Kensington® locks. For more information, contact your sales representative.

External Antenna Connectors

The AP305CX has four male RP-SMA connectors for attaching dual-band dipole antennas. You can provide your own antennas, or you can order them from Extreme Networks (AH-ACC-ANT-AX-KT).

The antenna kit contains four articulated 2.4/5 GHz antennas with a 3/5-dBi gain. These antennas are omnidirectional, providing fairly equal coverage in all directions in a toroidal (doughnut-shaped) pattern. For greater coverage on a horizontal plane, it is best to orient the antennas vertically. The articulated antennas hinge and swivel so that you can easily do this, whether the AP is mounted horizontally or vertically.
